The UK and Welsh Governments have announced further national lockdowns in England and Wales taking effect from 5 January 2021 and 20 December respectively. This means that we are required to close our centres across England and Wales until we are allowed to re-open. We do not know at present when we will be allowed to reopen but we will of course keep you updated and let you know as soon as possible.
We will continue to work on our reopening plan to ensure that we're ready to welcome back staff and customers when we are able to.
I would like to take the opportunity to thank you again for your continued support and commitment during this challenging time. Let’s stay as positive as we can and look forward to re-opening.
Glen Hall
Managing Director
Why is the centre closed?
All leisure centres in England have been ordered to close by the UK Government as of 5 January 2021 as part of the national lock down to combat the spread of coronavirus.
All leisure centres in Wales have been ordered to close by the Welsh Government as of 20 December 2020 as part of the national lock down to combat the spread of coronavirus.
How long will the centre be closed for?
At present we do not know how long the closures will remain in place for.
Should I still come into work?
As our centres are closed, you are no longer required to come into work.
Will I still be getting paid?
The Government has extended the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme from November 2020 until the end of April 2021. Under this scheme, employees who are not able to work due to site closures may be designated as a furloughed worker and will be paid 80% of their wages up to a monthly cap of £2,500. Employees will be notified if they are to be designated a furloughed worker.
As a furloughed worker" you will receive 80% of your monthly pay under the scheme. Due to financial pressures as a result of centre closure, the company will not be able to provide the 20% top up.
How will the furlough pay be calculated for full or part time employees on a salary?
If you have a question on how your furlough pay has been calculated please email payrollEnquiries@parkwood-holdings.co.uk
I am a casual, can I be a furloughed worker?
Under the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme, casual workers may be designated as a “furloughed worker” in order to be eligible to receive payments under the Scheme. Due to changes in the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme rules, whilst on furlough, casuals will no longer be paid a month in arrears.
This means that as a casual worker you will receive payment in January for any hours worked in December and you will receive furlough pay, i.e. 80%, for January.
When you return to work, you will be paid a month in arrears and this means that you will not receive pay for any hours worked until the following month.
I am a casual worker, my centre is closed, how will I be paid for my December hours?
Please make sure that your Manager has your timesheet as soon as possible. Your December hours will be paid in January as usual but we will need your completed timesheet to do this.
Will we be getting paid on our usual pay date?
Yes, pay day remains the last working day of the month
How will my furlough pay be calculated
The Company will calculate payment in accordance with the government guidance and the scheme rules.
Is annual leave still accrued during furlough?
Annual leave is still accrued during furlough. Any annual leave accrued during your furlough period will be designated as taken during this period. We will top up the 80% pay you receive as a furloughed worker to 100% so that you will receive full pay for this designated annual leave.
What will happen to my pension?
Your pension contributions will still be deducted from your salary during furlough unless, due to the current circumstances you wish to stop paying your pension contributions.
If this is the case please email payrollenquiries@parkwood-holdings.co.uk.
Now the centres are closed, how will you keep in touch with me?
We will keep in touch with you via your Manager. Please make sure that we have your up to date contact details including your email and phone number, you can do this via this site. Updates will also be posted here and the HR team are responding on a daily basis to questions that you raise on this site.
If you currently have more than one employer
If you have more than one employer you can be furloughed for each job. Each job is separate, and the cap applies to each employment separately. If you’re put on furlough by more than one employer, you’ll receive separate payments from each employer. The 80% of your normal wage up to a £2,500 monthly cap applies to each job.
You can be put on furlough by one employer and continue to work for another, if it is permitted within your employment contract. You can be furloughed in one job and receive a furloughed payment but continue working for another employer and receive your normal wages.
Can I do any volunteer work or training?
Once you are on furlough you will not be able to work for your employer, but you can undertake training or volunteer subject to public health guidance, as long as you’re not:
making money for your employer
providing services to your employer
Have people on maternity leave been affected by the change of employment status to Furlough employee?
Employees on maternity leave continue with maternity leave and have not been designated a furloughed worker and continue to receive statutory maternity pay in the normal way.
What’s going to happen to my holiday hours if it doesn’t reopen when I go on maternity leave.
If you have been unable to use up your annual leave prior to going on maternity leave, then this can be taken at the end of your maternity leave.
